The Diversity of Neutron Stars: Nearby Thermally Emitting Neutron Stars and the Compact Central Objects in Supernova Remnants - David L. KaplanNeutron stars are invaluable tools for exploring stellar death, the physics of ultra-dense matter, and the effects of extremely strong magnetic fields. The observed population of neutron stars is dominated by the >1000 radio pulsars, but there are distinct sub-populations that, while fewer in number, can have significant impact on our understanding of the issues mentioned above. These populations are the nearby, isolated neutron stars discovered by ROSAT, and the central compact objects in supernova remnants. The studies of both of these populations have been greatly accelerated in recent years

Labor Economics - Pierre Cahuc, André ZylberbergThis landmark graduate-level text combines depth and breadth of coverage with recent, cutting-edge work in all the major areas of modern labor economics. It is the only textbook available for advanced graduate students in the field, and it will be widely used; because of its command of the literature and the freshness of the material included, it will also prove to be a valuable resource for practicing labor economists. The book moves back and forth between factual data and theoretical reasoning. The space devoted to theory reflects the profound theoretical restructuring in the field that has

Fundamentals of Complex Analysis with Applications to Engineering and Science - Edward B. Saff, Arthur David SniderThis book provides a comprehensive introduction to complex variable theory and its applications to current engineering problems and is designed to make the fundamentals of the subject more easily accessible to readers who have little inclination to wade through the rigors of the axiomatic approach. Modeled after standard calculus books--both in level of exposition and layout--it incorporates physical applications "throughout, " so that the mathematical methodology appears less sterile to engineers. It makes frequent use of analogies from elementary calculus or algebra to introduce complex

Fugitive Denim: A Moving Story of People and Pants in the Borderless World of Global Trade - Rachel Louise SnyderIn the business of making and selling clothes, “Made in” labels do precious little to convey the constellation of treaties, countries, and people at work in the assembly of a simple pair of jeans. In Fugitive Denim journalist Rachel Louise Snyder reports from the far reaches of this multi-billion-dollar industry in search of the real people who make your clothes. From a cotton picker in Azerbaijan to a Cambodian seamstress, a denim maker in Italy to a fashion designer in New York, Snyder captures the human, environmental, and political forces at work in a dizzyingly complex and often absurd world.

Computational Fluid Dynamics - John D. Anderson Jr.The Beginner's guide to Computational Fluid Dynamics From aerospace design to applications in civil, mechanical, and chemical engineering, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is as essential as it is complex. The most accessible introduction of its kind, Computational Fluid Dynamics: The Basics With Applications, by experienced aerospace engineer John D. Anderson, Jr., gives you a thorough grounding in: the governing equations of fluid dynamics--their derivation, physical meaning, and most relevant forms; numerical discretization of the governing equations--including grids with appropriate
